Here at GHS, many teachers use a Google service called “Google Classroom” to deliver course material to students. Through Google Classroom, teachers can electronically deliver announcements, assign classwork, create discussion posts, and much more. Students are able to turn in assignments online through this service.
As parents, you have the ability to help keep track of your student’s academic progress on Google Classroom. By signing up for "summaries," Google Classroom will send you an email either daily or weekly with updates on assignments and announcements for every class that your student is enrolled in online through Google Classroom. Keep in mind though, some teachers may not use Google Classroom or may have this email summary feature turned off for their class, so it likely will not provide you updates for every single class your student is actually in. A few days into the school year, you should receive an email invitation to get Google Classroom summaries. If you have not received this invite and would like one, please let Mr. Hackbarth know.
Receiving these email summaries provides an excellent snapshot of what your student is working on in class as well as assignment due dates. It will also indicate whether your student has any late/missing work. One small limitation of this feature, however, is that it may not always be 100% accurate. For example, if something is assigned online but your student turns in a paper copy of the assignment, Classroom would not recognize that the assignment was actually turned in unless your student marks the assignment as complete online. When in doubt, check in with your student yourself and cross-check with the gradebook on Infinite Campus.
